shouted “Help! Help! Wolf! Wolf!”
didn’t laugh at his joke
ate all the boy’s sheep

Reading aloud shouldn’t be encouraged as:
Reading is normally a silent activity
One can read aloud without understanding
Silent skimming to get
The general idea of the whole passage
How the passage, how the structures of the text organized
The author’s purpose
Technique:
Read the title, headings and subheadings
Look at visuals
Read first and last sentences of paragraphs/sections
Looking for clues words that answer “who, what, when, where, why, how”

5. Silent skimming/reading
It is important that the children learn how to summarize a reading – to say what the reading is about.
There is a question which ask them to choose the sentence that best summarizes the reading.
