I. EVALUATION
Good points
Topic is interesting
Give useful cues related to topic music for Ss.
There is a model so weak Ss can know how to ask and answer.
- Practice the reporting skill and public speaking for Ss
In this unit parts Reading, Listening and Writing are quite good with the attractive topic (MUSIC). The topic may suitable to students’ interest
Reading is the best part of this unit because the tasks which are designed are based on the given passage. So this part is quite so good.
Weak points
- In speaking part:
+ In task 1, no specific context. They just give the information but have no context.
+ Not interesting because this task just requires Ss read and answer questions, Ss don’t have chance to speak and express their ideas. Therefore this task doesn’t motivate Ss ‘interaction as well as communication.
+ In task 2, not interesting and quite mechanical. Because Ss just ask and answer follow the model
+ In task 3, this task is not interesting because it just bases on task 2 and just report what they have in task 2.
+ It also doesn’t motivate the interaction and communication among the Ss
- In Language focus part, each exercise does not encourage interaction and communication. We have to adapt exercise 1+2, and exercise 3
+ These exercises are not really meaningful
II. ADAPTATION
1. Speaking part
a. Task 1:
* Aims:
- To make the task more interactive and more communicative.
- To encourage Ss speak and express their ideas.
- To make the task more interesting
* Procedure:
- Technique: Replace
- Let Ss work in pairs in and talk about their hobbies in music.
- Call some pairs talking in front of the class
- Teacher corrects mistakes for Ss if have
b. Task 2:
* Aim:
- To make the task more interesting
* Procedure:
- Technique: Modifying
Play game “Who is the IDOL?”
+ Divide class into group of 5.
+ Give each group 5 pieces of paper with name written on it. 1 is IDOL, the others are SUPERVISOR. And a table as follow:
Idol’s answer
Kind of music
Reasons for listening to music
Favorite band/musician
Favorite song/ piece of music
When listen to music
+ Each student takes a piece of paper. Who takes the paper named IDOL will answer questions of SUPERVISORS, and the SUPERVISORS put the question about music for the IDOL base on the table.
+ For example:
SUPERVISOR 1: What kind of music do you like?
IDOL: I like Pop Music
SUPERVISOR 2: Why do you like it?
IDOL: Because Pop is a ….kind of music, it makes me feel comfortable and relax.
+ Let groups work
+ Call some groups present in front of the class. Or Teacher can call the IDOL of one group and let the SUPERVISORS of other group ask.
+ Teacher gives feedback and corrects the mistakes if have
Task 3:
* Aims:
- To make the activities more interesting.
- To practice asking and answering Wh-question.
- To encourage Ss interactions and communications
* Procedure:
- Technique: Replace
Game: Guessing game: “My Idol”
+ Ss work in group of four. Each group has 6 to 8 pictures of famous singers in Viet Nam with some information about each on in each picture and a handout which gives their names and some information about each singer.
+ Give Ss the rule of the game:
Overturn the pictures on the table. 1 S who starts first pick one picture and not let other Ss see it. He/she asks others guess who is in the picture.
Other Ss in the group base on the information in the handout and ask, using Wh-question.
Who gives the right answer will keep the picture and take turn. When the game ends, who gets most pictures is the winner in the group.
+ Ask one of the Ss to make model
T: Can you guess who is my Idol?
S: What is your Idol’s sex?
T: My Idol is female.
S: What kind of music does she sing?
T: Pop music
S: Where was she born?
T: She was born in Da Nang.
S: Your Idol is My Tam, right?
T: Congratulation. You’re right. This is the picture of My Tam
