To emphasize the action.

Compound word:
Combine two or more words with together acting as a single unit
Open: spaces between words
Ex: bus stop, washing machine, full moon…..
Hyphenated: hyphens between words
Ex: mother-in-law, rice- cooking….
Close: no spaces/ no hyphens between words Ex: bedroom, football, haircut…..
noun + V_ing : form
Noun + (-) + V_ing
English - speaking = English + (-) + speaking
Rice – cooking = rice + (-) + cooking
Mountain – climbing = mountain +(-)+ climbing
As Adjective
Ex : England is an English – speaking country
England is a country which people speak English
As noun
My sister likes mountain – climbing
My sister likes climbing mountain.

3. Rewrite the sentences in your exercise book. Use a compound word in your sentences.
a) It is a contest in which participants have to make a fire.
b) It is a festival in which people have their bulls fight against each other.
