LESSON PLAN
UNIT 3: A PARTY
___LISTENING___

OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will:
Be able to talk about someone’s birthday party.
MATERIALS:
Text book, blackboard, handout, PowerPoint, laptop.
PROCEDURE:

WARM- UP
T divides class into 4 large groups and asks Ss to take a look to the screen and write the names for some following items on a small paper. The group which has all correct answers will get a small gift.
T shows pictures on the screen.

PRE- LISTENING:
T asks Ss to work in pairs and answer some questions:
When do you like to organize your birthday party, during the day or in the evening?
What foods and drinks are you often served at your birthday party?
What activities do you often have at your birthday party?


T calls some Ss to answer the questions.
T introduces some new words.
Gather(v) /ˈɡað(ə)rɪŋ/: tụ tập
Slice (n) /slʌɪs/ : lát
Clap (v) :  /klap/ : vỗ tay
T asks Ss to listen and repeat.
T sets a situation: “ You are going to listen to a talk about Mai’s birthday party”, and encourages Ss to listen, then guess the meaning of some new words and take note.
WHILE- LISTENING:
TASK 1:
T asks Ss to read all statements in Tasks 1 and underline keywords.
Mai’s birthday party was held at home in the evening.
Over twenty guests were at the birthday party.
The birthday cake was cut at the beginning of the party.
The birthday party lasted about three hours.
All the friends stayed after the party to tidy up the mess.
T lets Ss to listen for the first time.
T calls some names to answers.
T gives correct answers.








TASK 2
T asks Ss to read the questions and guess the answers.
T lets Ss to listen to the tape and do the task.
1. How old was Mai?
2. Why didn’t she like having her party at a restaurant?
3. What did Mai’s mother serve the guests at the beginning of the party?
4. What time was the birthday cake brought out?
5. What was the birthday cake like?
6. What did all the guests do while Mai was cutting the cake?
7. What time did the birthday party finish?

T plays the tape again.
T asks Ss to compare their answers with friends.
T calls some names to answer.
T gives feedback and correct answers.
POST- LISTENING
T asks Ss to look the questions and answers again.
T asks Ss to work in groups and make a brief summary about Mai’s birthday party.
T calls some representatives to stand up and perform.
T gives feedback.
HOMEWORK
T asks Ss to write a short paragraph (100 words) about Mai’s birthday party.
T asks Ss to prepare for the Writing lesson.

Ss listen, then work in group and write on a paper.
