Period 20 : Unit 4 –Our Past – Lesson 1 - Getting started & Listen and Read – Page 38-39.

Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use “used to” to describe the past events.
Materials : Magnified copies of pictures from the textbook, Posters, cassette recorder, cards.

II )Pre reading (Stage) :

-Modern equipment (n) : cacù thiết bị hiện đại. ( Explanation)
-Folktale =Traditional story (n) : Truyện dân gian, truyện cổ tích. ( Explanation)
-(to) look after = take care of : chăm sóc.( Synonym)

Ex : My father used to smoke when he was young.
S + used to + Vo
Negative : S + didn’t use to + V .
Interrogative : Did + S + use to + V ?
Meaning : đã từng, đã thường.
Usage : Dùng để diễn tả 1 thói quen trong quá khứ và không còn our hiện tại.
*Who are they ? What are they talking about ?
*We are going to read a dialogue between Nga and her grandmother about the things that Nga’s grandmother used to do when she was a young girl.
*Pre questions :
1)Where did Nga’s grandma live when she was young ?
2)Did she go to school ?

 -SS read the dialogue and answer the questions.
-T.asks – SS answer orally.
-T. gives feedback.

(T. introduces and explains “Fact” and “opinion”).
*SS read the sentences (a-f) on page 39 and check F(fact) or O (opinion).
-SS work in pairs to do the exercise.
-T. gives Feedback.
-T. presses the tape.
-SS listen with book-open.
-SS practice the dialogue in pairs.
III ) While reading (Stage) :
-Comprehension Questions. / .Lucky numbers.

She used to live on a farm.
Because she had to stay home and help her mom( she used to look after her younger brothers and sisters).
She used to cook the meals, clean the house and wash the clothes.
Her great-grandmother used to lit the lamp and her great grandfather used to tell them stories.
She asked her grandmother to tell her the tale “the lost shoe”.

Ex : Fact : This flower is red.
Opinion : This flower is very beautiful.
