Lesson 5: How to draw a line in Flash CS3
- You can draw all sorts of objects with lines. The easiest way to draw straight lines in Flash is to use the Line  tool. To draw a free-form line, use the Pencil tool. Lines, also called strokes in Flash, can connect with other lines and shapes to create a drawing.

1: Draw line Segments
Step 1. Click the Line tool. Step 2. Move the mouse pointer over the Stage area. Step 3. Click and drag to draw a line to your desired length. Step 4. Release the mouse button. Step 5.The line appears to your specifications. 2:  Draw a Free form Line

Step 1. Click the Pencil tool. Step 2. Click the Pencil Mode button. Step 3. Select a pencil mode. Step 4. Click and drag your cursor on the Stage to draw the line. Step 5. Release the mouse button. Step 6. The line appears to your specifications.
3. Draw Lines with the Pen Tool You can draw precise lines and curves with the Pen tool. Using this tool takes some getting used to, but with a little practice, you can draw lines easily. Lines that you create with the Pen tool are composed of points, which appear as dots on the line segment and represent changes in the line’s curvature.


Step 1. Click the Pen tool. Step 2. Move the cursor pointer over the Stage area. Step 3. Click and begin dragging to start the curve. Control handles appear. Step 4. Stop dragging and release the mouse button. Step 5. Click and drag where you want the line to end. Step 6. Release the mouse button. The curve line appears on the Stage.
4. How do I control the line thickness? You can set a line thickness before you start drawing the actual line segment using the Property inspector panel. If the panel is not open, press   Ctrl  +  F3   . When the Line or Pencil tool is selected, the Property inspector displays options for controlling line thickness, style, and color of any strokes you draw on the Stage. For example, to change the line thickness, drag the Stroke height slider up or down. You can apply a new line thickness to an existing line by first clicking the line to select it and then dragging the slider. 5. How do I keep a straight line vertical or horizontal? Using the Line tool, press and hold down the Shift key and draw a line that is pretty much vertical or horizontal. Flash makes the line perfectly vertical or horizontal. This trick also works when drawing a 45-degree line. The quickest way to draw curves is to drag the Pen tool along with its handles on the Flash Stage. The handle is a straight line with two solid points at either end. You can rotate the bar to create
