How to listen English well???
Why do we choose English to study, not other languages?
I have a question to ask you before starting our group’s presentation:
Identify aim now!
As you know, English is a popular language. It always exists on the Internet, songs, slogans and many activities everyday. Without English, we hardly connect to the world
Our country are developing and intergrating studying English is a inevitable trend.
Why do we need self-confidence?
We face challenges in our everyday lives. No matter who we are, what jobs we do, where we live in, we are faced with difficulties and problems in every moment of our lives.
Confidence allows youto trust in yourself that you could do marvelous thing
When a person has faith and trust in himself, he would have the feeling of assurance, that all will be fine.
For example, a teacher must feel confident, so that he is able to stand in front of his class and present what he has to teach to his students.
Now we will talk about some tips to help you improve your listening skill…
Listen! Listen!!
Listen to dialogues in English TV programs and movies. Avoid looking at the subtitles (translation of the dialogues in your mother tongue). Focus on understanding what the speakers are saying without reading the translations.
FOCUS ON UNDERSTANDING
Don’t read the subtitles anymore!
We seldom understand all the meanings what the native speaker are saying. Therefore, we advice you to focus on catching the main ideas.
Imagine you are listening to a foreigner introduce himself. You catch the main idea:
Hello… Tom… New York… teacher
We give you this image. What do you think about it?
Hello… Tom… New York… teacher
Do you know his name? Where is he from? What does he do? Of course! You only need to hear the key words to understand the meaning.
You will understand more if you keep in mind the main idea someone is trying to communicate. To identify the main idea
Determine the type of speech. Is this a conversation or a presentation? Is it formal or informal?
Identify the purpose. Why is the speaker talking? To inform? Persuade? Apologize? Listen for specific phrases (e.g. “I’m sorry!”) that will help you identify the purpose.
Use your own knowledge. Whether someone is speaking about Hanoi’s traffic or the countries of Europe, you already know something about the subject. Good listeners use this knowledge to understand what someone is saying.
Predict what the speaker is GOING to say
If you are talking to a chef, and he is standing in a kitchen, you know he’s probably going to talk about food. You can prepare yourself by thinking of the vocabulary he’s going to use, and why he’s going to use it. A good listener ANTICIPATES what a person is going to say.
Overcome all difficulties
Accept the fact that you are NOT going to understand everything. And that’s okay: you don’t have to! Even native speakers don’t hear every word. But if you miss something, try not to worry. Keep listening, until you hear a key word that you understand. Stay calm, and you will understand more.
Practice Listening Every Day. This is the most important thing you can do. Listening takes practice, but if you spend at least 30 minutes listening to English every day, you’ll be amazed by how quickly you improve!
Thank you for your wathching.
