1. Aims and objectives:
At the end of the lesson students can develop some sub-skills of Reading:
- Scanning for specific information to answer comprehension questions and decide on True or False statements.
- Summarizing the text by gap-filling.
2. Language: submarine, marine, biodiversity, at stake.
3. Skill: Integrated skill.
4. Method: Communicative approach.
5. Techniques: True – False, repetition, game.
6. Teaching aids needed: book, blackboard, chalk, computer, Power Point, projector.

I. Stabilization. (1m)
- Greets students.
- Checks attendance.
- Greet teacher.
- Answer the question.
II. Presentation
1. Lead – in (6ms)
- Asks students to play games.
- Divides the class into 5 groups.
- Gives students the game rules: Each group chooses a box at random and guesses what sea animal is behind the box. After that, you have to give the Vietnamese names for the oceans.
- Checks comprehension.
- Asks students to give answers.
- Gives feedback.
- Reads loudly names of these oceans and animals then asks students to repeat again and reminds them of pronunciation, stress.
- Gives feedback and corrects students’ pronunciation, stress.
- Listen to the teacher.
- Play the game.

Meaning: tàu ngầm.
+ biodiversity [,baioudai`və:səti] (n) the existence of a large number of different kinds of animals and plants which make a balanced environment.
Meaning: sự đa dạng sinh học.
( Using synonym and examples
+ marine [mə`ri:n](adj) = undersea (adj)
Meaning: (thuộc) về biển.
+ at stake [æt steik] = in danger
Ex: She is seriously ill and her life seems to be at stake.
Meaning: bị đe dọa.
- Reads new words and asks students to repeat in chorus, then calls some of them read individually, reminds them of pronunciation, stress.
- Gives feedback and corrects students’ pronunciation, stress.
* Vocabulary Check: Rub out and Remember
- Rubs some words out and asks students to repeat.
- Give meaning or synonym of new words.
- Listen to the teacher, repeat and pay attention to pronunciation, stress.
3. Controlled practice (18ms)
Task 1.
- Instructs students to do Task 1: The words in the box all appear in the passage. Fill each blank with one of them. There are more words than needed.
- This is a kind of gap–filling, teacher gives students some tips to do the exercise.
+ Read the statements carefully.
+ Identify parts of speech of words in each space and in the box.
+ Guess the suitable word basing on parts of speech of the words and context.
- Asks students to do the task in pairs
- Invites students to answer.
- Gives feedback and corrects students’ answer.
Task 2
- Instructs students to do Task 2: Decide whether the following statements are True (T) or False (F) and correct False statements.
- Gives statements:
1. 25 percent of the earth’s surface is covered by seas and oceans.
2. Scientists now overcome the challenges of the death by traditional methods and their experience.
3. Submarines can do nothing to help scientists know about the undersea world.
