UNIT 4: BIG OR SMALL ?
Lesson 1: A –WHERE IS YOUR SCHOOL?
(A1, 2)
I. Aims and objectives:
* Language content:
To introduce some new words relating to school.
To enable the sts to use the adjectives, possessive and the present simple tense.
* Language function:
- To help the sts to ask and answer about the place, location, quality, characteristics, quantity and possession.
* Educational aim:
- To show the sts the knowledge of location and the size of their school.
1. Language:
a. Vocabulary: big, small, city, country.
b. Structures: -Where is Phong’s school?
It’s in the country/ city.
It’s big/ small.
2. Skills: - Integrated skills
3. Educational factor:
-To educate the sts’ love of their school.
II Teacher and students` preparation:
1. Method : -Communicative approach
2. Techniques: -Repetition, game, explanation, pair work, group work.
3. Materials needed: -Cassette player, chalk, board, picture

5. Previous exercises: Test 45
III/ Procedure in class:
1/ Stabilization (2 ms):
a. Warm up: -Asks the students about the weather
b. Checking absence: -Asks the monitor about the absence
“Who is absent to day?”
2/ Checking up the previous knowledge ( 5 ms)
-Tell some things about the test 45’ .

I / Lead in:
1. Sets the situation:
-Gives 2 pens: one’s big and one’s small
-Asks: ’Which is bigger, which is smaller?”
-Draws 2 houses and asks the sts some questions to lead in the lesson.
2. Presents the new lesson:
-Uses the picture in text book to present the models:
-Picture 1: This is Phong . This is his school. Phong’s school is small. It’s in the country.
-Picture 2: This is Thu. This is her school. Thu’s school is big. It’s in the city.
-Asks the sts to listen and repeat 2 above models.
-Tells the aim of the lesson. ”help the sts know how to compare 2 things.”
First of all we’ll study some new words.
II/ Pre- Practice:
- Teaches new words:
1- big ( small (adj)(real object)
2- country( city(n) (using picture)
3- This is his school = This is Phong’s school.
( His school= Phong’s school.
-Checks understanding of the new words:
-Gives 2 pens and asks the sts to compare them.
-Shows the pictures of school and asks:” Where is it?”
- Reviews the structure:
-Writes the modals on the board :
Ex1: This is Phong.
( Is this Phong?
-Yes, it is./ No, it isn’t.
Ex2: Phong’s school is small.
( Is Phong’s school small?
-Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.
Ex3: Where’s Phong’s school?
( It’s in the country.
-Explains the way of changing these examples into interrogative sentences and answer the questions.
* Prediction the content of the text by matching:
A B
-Phong’s - small
school -big
-Thu’s -in the city
school - in the country

III/ Controlled Practice
-Lets the sts listen to the cassette 3 times. The third time stops sentence by sentence and asks them
