UNIT 12: SPORTS AND PASTIMES.
Lesson 1 : A- What are they doing?
(A1- 2- 3)
I/ Aims and objectives:
* Language content :
- To introduce the sts some new words relating to some popular sports and pastimes in English.
- To enable the sts to review the way of using the present continuous tense.
*Language function :
- To help the sts to express which sports they play, ask and answer about sports and pastimes.
*Educational aim :
- To educate in the sts love for sport.
1. Language:
a. Vocabulary: -swim, skip, jog, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, aerobics.
b. Structures: - Review
I play soccer.
Which sports do you play?
He/ She is jogging.
What is he/she doing?
2. Skills: - Integrated skills
3. Educational factor:
- Knowing to exercise the sports.
II/ Teacher and students` preparation:
1. Method : - Communicative approach.
2. Techniques: - Explanation, Repetition, using picture, game, pair work.
3. Materials needed: -Picture, cassette player, text book.
4. Students` preparation: - Prepare the lesson well before coming to class.
5. Previous exercises: Test 45.
III/ Procedure in class:
1/ Stabilization ( 2ms):
a. Warm up: - Greets the students.
b. Checking absence: - Asks the monitor about the absence
2/ Checking up the previous knowledge : (5 ms ) No
3/ Presentation of the new materials:

I/ Lead - in :
- Asks: “What are you doing?
What is he/ she doing?”
- Shows at the pictures in the part A1 on page 124 and asks:” What are they doing?”
- Introduces the aims of new lesson : ” Review the way of using the present continuous tense and the names of some popular sports in English.”
II/ Pre- Practice:
- Asks the sts to look at the pictures A1, listens and repeats the name of each sport picture by picture.
- Teaches new words:
+ Swim (v): (picture)
+ Badminton (n): (picture)
+ Skip(v) : “
+ Do aerobics (v): “
+ Tennis (n): “
+ Jog (v): “
+ Table- tennis (n): “
- Has sts read in chorus and individuals.
- Sticks some pictures of sports on the board.
- Gives sts some words and lets them stick under the right pictures.
- Calls other sts to give their remarks.
- Asks sts to read aloud sentences in the part A1.
- Demands sts to recall the information of the present continuous tense.
III/ Controlled- Practice :
- Explains the way of practicing the exercise A2.
- Asks sts to work in pairs, asking and answering about people in the pictures A1.
- Calls some pairs to practice in front of the class.
- Has sts recall some sports they’ve learnt and fill in the following Networks:
Skip Play soccer
Sports
Jog do aerobics
- Introduces : “ I play soccer.”
- Asks : “ Which sports do you play?”
- Explains the meaning of this question.
- Plays the cassette in Part A3
3 times. The third time stops sentence by sentence and lets sts repeat.
- Asks sts to work in pairs, asking and answering about:
“ Which sports do you play?”
- Calls some pairs to practice in front of class.
IV/ Free- practice:
- Lets sts play the game “Noughts and Crosses”.
