It is universally acknowledged that the development of economy is a determinant of a country`s success. Nevertheless, some others argue that there are many other factors to determine whether a nation is successful or not. So, what are essential factors that can exert profound influence on the success? In this time of knowledge based economy, undoubtedly to say education plays a rudimentary role in the overall development of an individual and the society at large. It is education that gives people critical skills and tools to help them better provide for themselves as well as contribute to the country. With improved, inclusive education, so many other areas are positively affected. Conversely, the extractive, insufficient education prevents widespread participation in the political system, block economic growth and bar the path to prosperity. In short, education has the power to make the country a better place.
Another unit on the ruler of the country’s success is the overall quality of life. Actually, each individual is a cell composing the body of society; once the cell is well-fed, the country’s success is surely to come. Whereas, some countries like Japan, Korea…etc. albeit with well-developed economies, their citizens lead a stressful life which may engender a great deal of problems; and most pronouncedly, in recent years, is the alarming increase in the number of people resorting suicide as an outlet for their dilemma; how can they be considered successful with such malignant tumor ever remaining. Thus, the high standard of living, a sound health care and a more equitable distribution of income are all indicators of development.
And technology, the so-called artificial saint of modern time which, with its magic power, has made what previously seems to be impossible become possible, can be utilized to determine a country`s success. In this day and age, the nature of competition among countries is the advancement of technology. Advanced technology can benefit a country in various aspects, such as increasing work efficiency, decreasing production costs and conserving the environment. This is one of the reasons why America, which has the most advanced technology in the world, is the leading nation all over the world. Having considered all the arguments above, it is obvious that economic development is only one contributor of a country`s success. Education, technology and the quality of life also contribute to the success and they are equally important. As a consequence, only by improving in an all-round way can each county become successful.
