TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS
INTRODUCE
Temple of Artemis is the goddess of hunting, the temple of Artemis, also known as Diana temple was built of marble by the architect and Chersiphron his son Metagenes, length 377 feet (115 m) wide by 180 feet (55 m, including 127 stone columns, in the city of Ephesus (now Turkey), Egie coast (Aegean Sea).
HISTORY
Artemis was son of Zeus and Lesto, sister of Apollon – god of light and poetry. She is envisioned as a virgin in white holding a bow and arrow, often accompanied by a deer or a dog.
The temple construction was started in 550 BC, through the process of rebuilding and expanding over time, last year 430 BC, after 120 years. In 356 BC, the temple was destroyed by fire on the night Alexander the Great was born. A similar temple was rebuilt on the old temple. In 262, the Goths had fired the second temple. Only the background and some other parts of the second survived to this day. British Museum in London also save some vestige of the second temple.
ARCHITECTURE - ART
As one of the project is built entirely of marble oldest, most massive. The temple was first built around 550 BC with the financial assistance of Croesus - a famous king rich with the neighboring kingdom of Lydia.
However, in the year 356 BC, the magnificent structure was a man suffering from mania to want his name immortal, was arson burned.
Newly restored temple still exists in the Roman period. Three large windows are sculpted straight through the roof, windows in the middle of creating a cavity open to those who visit the temple can see the goddess Artemis on the altar. The main altar is also a range of works is really magnificent column on the side, positioned in front of the temple.

ARCHITECTURE - ART

Primordial black in size 55 x 110 meters at the top of the ladder, the three sides is a sequence of two rows of columns surrounding a gate covered in front with a deep column exit.
Thirty-six columns at the front entrance is decorated with embossed work, a trait unusual for the Greek temples, the columns themselves are carved from 40 to 48 grooves carved trough deep shaft.

ARCHITECTURE - ART

Around the temple above the columns, with a cylindrical volume, while the gutters are carved lion.
The distance between the support columns are generally not exceed 6.5 m, including boulders up to 8.75 m, the project has forced the builders to show their highest potential.

SCULPTURE
Marble used in construction were taken from the quarry to the construction site 11 km. There are boulders weighing 40 tons, can not use the normal shipping. But Chersiphron devised a method to replace very talented: prismatic blocks used to mount the pin in the center column to be fixed in a wooden frame so that they can spin like a giant roller transfer much traction with the cows. This idea is the son of Chersiphron Metagenes proposed, so that the stone columns decorated the square can be moved in a similar way, each of the columns are encased in a giant wooden wheel.
This massive temple is indeed evidence for a skillful, talented and Chersiphron of his son. Unfortunately, only a very small portion of the building survived until now, we only preserve the temple`s podium cirque newly excavated temple and a single column reinforced with concrete.
