MODEL ARGUMENT ESSAY
The use of computer technology will have an enomous and positive impact on education in the future. Do you agree?
The revolution in computer technology is something which has touched life. Its impact has extended beyond work to shopping, personal communication, entertainment and education. In educational institutions, computer-related technologies have had a profound influence on the way teachers instruct and students learn. In the future the technologies are set to introduce even more vast and positive changes to the way individuals learn.
The most obvious growth area is likely to be integration of the Internet into core subjects in schools and universities. This may well mean that learning a subject will automatically involve the use of the Internet to research materials, exchange ideals and download data. Whereas students previously relied on a library to gather the information needed, in the future the Internet will most likely replace it as their virtual library. In addition, the geographic independence of the Net will increasingly allow students to undertake group assignments from the comfort of their own home. Living in a remote location, therefore, will not be a handicap to the exchange of ideas.
The use of multi-media technologies in learning could well applications which have not even been thought of yet. For example, graphics programs, CD-roms, sound bites, digital photography, and chat facilities are some of the technologies that may forever change the process of learning. As governments continue to invest in these technologies , students may become more autonomous, creative and independent in the way they learn. It is most likely that teachers will no longer be seen as the main sourse of knowledge. Rather, learners will be able to take a more active role in acquiring knowledge.
The application of technology to education is already very apparent. In the future its impact will be felt even more strongly. As this technology is integrated into curriculum from kindergarten to university, learning will take on a more exciting and challenging role. Wired to the world and to our own communities via networks of computers, educators and students will be presented with ever more creative and dynamic learning opportunities.
