Teaching plan
1. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to use the past simple tense and some adverbs of time to talk about the actions in the past.
2. Procedures:
a- Presentation: Introduce the past simple tense
b- Practice: Activities for drilling

3. Level: beginners
4. Time: 45 minutes.

Everyday
- Tim plays games in the afternoon.
- He watches T.V in the evening.
Yesterday
- Tim played games in the afternoon.
- He watched T.V in the evening.
Past simple tense

Past simple tense
We use the simple past tense to talk about actions or events that started and finished in the past.


- Tim played games in the afternoon.
- He watched T.V in the evening.
The past tense form regular verbs
borrow - borrowed watch - watched need - needed
comb - combed look - looked rest - rested
return - returned brush - brushed want - wanted
decide - decided place - placed --------------
study- studied -------------- --------------
plan - planned miss - missed fit - fitted
prefer - preferred -------------- commit - committed
How to add –ed
1. If the verb ends in -e we -d.
2. If the verb ends in a consonant + y y changes to “i” before -ed.
3. If the verb ends in a consonant -vowel-consonant we double the final consonant before -ed.
4. If the verb has more than one syllable, we double the final consonant only if the final syllable is stressed.


How to pronounce -ed

Using:
We use the simple past tense to talk about an action or a situation - an event - in the past.
The event can be short or long.
Past simple tense
Present perfect simple
Form:
S + have/has + Ved/ PI…..
S + haven’t/ hasn’t + Ved/PI… .
Have/has + S + Ved/ PI……?
Wh + have/ has + Ved/ PI…..?
Adverb of times:
for, since, recently,
already, not… yet, just, ever, never,
so far, ……..
Using: We use the present perfect simple:
- to refer to completed events, states or actions in the past which took
- place within a period of time which is un unfinished.
- for a more recent pat than that expressed by the time.
- for events which have present relevance or a connection with now.
- with adverbs (above)
- in contexts such as news reports or personal biographies
- to refer to completed events, states or auctions ”when o past time is specified”
Present perfect continuous
Form:
S + have/has + been + Ving….. .
S + haven’t/hasn’t + been + Ving….. .
Have/ has + S + been + Ving…..?
Wh + have/ has + S + been + Ving…..?

Adverb of times:
For, since, lately, recently,
all the morning /day/ week/ the whole
Morning/day/week.
Using:
We perfect. We use it to emphasize that something has continued for a long time.
- I’ve been waiting for an hour!
We can use the present perfect continuous when often use the present perfect continuous instead of the present something stops just before the present, but it affects us now.
- Look, the road is wet. It`s been raining.
We can use the present perfect continuous when things have happened many times from the past to the present.
- We`ve been going to France for our holidays for ten years.
We use many adverbs and other expressions of time to help emphasize `how long`
- We’ve been waiting for an hour. I’ve been feeling ill lately. We`ve been working since 6.00 this morning.


Past simple contrasted with Present perfect simple
