What may be the causes of desert expansion?
What is “dune fixation”?
In what way can Beijing be affected by the Gobi Desert?
Which method of stopping desert expansion is harmful to the environment?
Suggestive answer:
People cut down trees for fuel and farmland; their herds (horses, cattle) eat up the grass covering the soil.
“Dune fixation” is the method of fixing sand dunes or stopping them from moving forward.
Beijing is affected by the Gobi Desert when strong winds blow sand and dust from the desert into city 30 to 40 days a year.
The method of pouring oil on sandy areas to retain water for planting trees is harmful to the environment.
