* What are the rules in reported statements?
Rules:
a. Reporting verbs: say, tell
say to + Obj. = tell + Obj.
Note: We can use many other reporting verbs besides say, and tell, for examples: think, announce, explain . . .
b. Verb changes:
If the reporting verb is in the present tense (ex: says, tells) there is no tense change.
If the reporting verb is in past tense (ex: said, told) the verb in the reported clause moves “one tense back”.
