Period 2: Speaking
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
Talk about the celebrations of Tet and other festivals’ activities.
Materials: Textbook, handouts, pictures.

Warm up:
- T asks Ss to play game:

Suggested Questions:
People always feel….when they receive gifts.

A kind of rice is used for making Chung cake.

The old man who goes into the chimney with the package of gifts for children on Christmas is……..

A fastival is held on a variable Sunday in March or April.
The key word is “ Holiday”.
- T introduces thee lesson:
Unit 8:Celebrations
Period 2: Speaking
- T shows some pictures to Ss and asks them: What is this?
The first picture : Chung cake.
The second one : Peach blossom.
The third one : Kumquat tree.
The last one : Apricot blossom.
-T asks: When do you look at these things all our country?
Task 1:
Instruction: You are going to practice the dialogue on page 93 in pairs.
- T asks the whole class to read the dialogue silently.
- T asks them what points are mentioned in the dialogue.



- T checks with the whole class and makes clear that: in the dialogue the two friends talk about Tet holiday, its time and activities.
- T asks the Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs in some minutes.
- T calls on some pairs to practice the dialogue and gives comments.
Task 2:
Instruction: You are going match the holidays with its description and activities.
- Before the Ss do the task, T asks them to look at the three pictures on page 93 and work out the name of each holiday.
- T checks with the whole class and gives out the correct answer:
+ Picture 1: Mid-Autumn festival ( Tết trung thu).
+ Picture 2: Thanksgiving ( Lễ tạ Ơn).
+ Picture 3: Valentine’s day ( Ngày lễ tình yêu).
- T may ask the Ss to list the activities people usually do in these holidays and write them quickly on the board so that the Ss can compare these with the information they will deal with later.



- T asks the Ss to turn to the next page and do the task in pairs. They match the holiday with its main purpose and activities.
- T calls on some Ss to give the answer and T may ask Ss to compare their answers with the information written on the board.

- Ss list some activities that people usually do in these holidays:
+ Giving lover chocolate and roses in Valentine’s day.
+ Seeing the moon in the Mid-Autumn with friends.

- Ss do task 2 in pairs.
Match the holiday with its main purpose and activities.
- Some Ss give answers and then compare.


- Ss check.
