TRANSCRIPT
ONE: Christmas is the special time for me. It is the only time in the
year that I get to see some of my relatives. Last year, our whole family
got together for a big Christmas dinner. It was great. We were all big
talkers so everyone had a funny story to tell.
TWO: When I was a kid, I never liked Halloween much. It was too
scary and now that I have 2 children of my own, it is even more
frightening. I don’t let my children go from door to door and ask
strangers for candy. The world is too dangerous for that. Last year my
kids just went to party at a friend’s house and it was fine with me.
THREE: I don’t look forward to New Year’s Eve. Those parties are the
worst. There is too much food at the end of eating and staying up too
late, I feel terrible next day. And the noise. Last year, the people next
door had a huge noisy party that went on until 5 in the morning.

Read the passage below.
In Britain there is a holiday now which people call Mother’s Day. In the
old days many girls from working-class families in towns and cities
and from farmers’ families in the country worked in rich houses. They
had to do all the housework and their working day was usually very
long, they often worked on Sundays, too.
Once a year, it was usually one Sunday in March, they could visit their
mothers. They went home on that day and brought presents for their
mothers and for other members of their families. They could stay at
home only one day, and then went back to their work. People call that
day Mothering Day or Mothering Sunday.
Later workers at the factories and girls who worked in the houses of
rich families received on free day a week, and Mothering Day became
Mother’s Day. It is the last Sunday in March.
