in Scots: Auld (old); lang (long); syne (since) - the times gone past, the good old days.
This is an old Scottish song that is traditionally sung in the UK and the USA at midnight on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the start of new year. When singing this song, people stand in a circle, crossing their arms over and shaking the hands of the people on either side. It was first penned by Robert Burns
