About five years ago, officials in Thane, India, decided to reduce
its dependency on power from coal. This city, near Mumbai, often
experiences lack of power because of the large numbers of people
using electricity. Officials decided to save energy by putting water
heaters powered by the sun on top of the city`s main hospital. The
hospital saved thousands of dollars in energy costs each year.
Officials then began building solar powered water heaters around the
city. Thane later started requiring solar water heaters for all new
buildings. And, the city offers a reduced property tax rate for people
who place these water heaters in their homes.

Read the passage below.
4. read
We can develop alternative sources of energy, and unless we try we’ll never
succeed. Instead of burning fossil fuels we should be concentrating on more
economic uses of electricity, because electricity can be produced from any
sources of energy.
If we didn’t waste so much energy, our recourses would last longer. We can
save more energy by conservation than we can produce for the same money.
Unless we do research on solar energy, wind power, tidal power, hydroelectric
plants, etc., fossil fuels will run out and we’ll all freeze or stave to death.
Many countries are spending much more time and money on research
because the energy from the sun, the waves and the winds last forever. We
really won’t survive unless we start working on cleaner and safer sources of
energy.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am Professor Ngoc and now I am going to tell you how to keep the environment clean.
Most of us discard too much garbage and this dirties our environment. We can reduce this amount by:
+ firstly, collecting plastic bags
+ secondly, not keeping solid waste with food waste
+ and finally, putting different kinds of waste in different places.
Well, to conclude, if you follow these simple rules, you’ll keep our environment clean. That is what you do to save the natural resources.
