Weak form thường được sử dụng trong giao tiếp bình thường, nhất là khi nói nhanh.
Âm tiết yếu (weak syllable) trong Tiếng Anh chứa một trong các nguyên âm ə , ɪ, i: ,u. Examples:
1.      Give it to me!
/gɪv ɪt tə ˈmiː/
2. It takes three hours to get from here to London.
/ɪt teɪks ˈθriː ˈaʊəz tə get frəm ˈhɪə tə ˈlʌndən/

Weak form of some conjunctions and prepositions


Trường hợp bắt buộc dùng strong form:

Từ đứng ở cuối câu
E.g. - I’m fond of chips. (tôi thích khoai tây rán.)
/ aim ‘fɒnd əv ‘t∫ips /
- Chips are what I’m fond of. (Khoai tây rán là thứ tôi thích.)
/ ‘t∫ips ə ‘wɒt aim ‘fɒnd ɒv /
Strong form of some conjunctions and prepositions

· Từ dùng để đối lập
hoặc phối hợp với từ khác

E.g.
The letter’s from him, not to him. (Lá thư gửi từ anh ấy, không phải cho anh ấy.)
/ ðə `letəz ‘frɒm im nɒt ‘tu: im /
I travel to and from London a lot. (tôi rất hay đi đi về về Luân Đôn.)
/ ai ‘trævl ‘tu: ən ‘frɒm `lʌndən ə ‘lɒt /
· Từ được nhấn mạnh theo mục đích riêng

WHOM (WHO)
- My employer works in the next room. I dislike
him.
My employer, whom I dislike, works in the

WHICH
- The flowers are beautiful. You bought the flowers yesterday.

WHOSE

- I know the girl. Her father works in this bank.

- A tree should be cut down. Its branches are dead.

 Whoever, whatever, …: may be used as S, O
1. Whoever asks, don’t say I’m at home.
2. Whatever happens, be calm.
 Which: may be used as S in
coordinating relative clauses
3. She gets good marks. This makes her parents happy
