1. Christine first arrived in Vietnam as a teacher of English. 2. Linh decided to set up a small business to avoid being out of work. 3. Since Doi Moi, our country has gradually overcome many difficulties but hasn’t achieved economic results. 4. Hai used to be a state employee but now he is working in Song Than Industrial Zone. 5. Nhan’s parents used to work very hard but couldn’t feed the family but now their life has greatly improved.

2. Why is Hai’s case considered a case of “brain drain”? Do you think Linh’s case is also an example of “brain drain”?
“Brain drain” happens when an intellectual or well-educated peron moves from the government sector to a private foreign one. Hai is an example, but Linh isn’t as she runs her own business.
