B: She’ll teach us how to play English pronunciation games.

A: What clothes are you going to wear, Pretty?
B: Black brown blouse and jeans.
A: How about a small present for Bretty after her presentation?
B: Please bring something not very precious.
II. GRAMMAR: Reported speech with infinitive
1. Reported order and requests
A man said: “I want to get to the station.”
Where’s the station?
Turn left after the bridge.
The children told me to turn left after the bridge.
We use structure: to tell / to ask sb to do smt ( b¶o hay yªu cÇu ai lµm g×)

I’m not feeling well.
You should go to the doctor.
Alice advised Linda (her) to go to the doctor.

S + Verb + Object +To- V (infi)
In order to report “orders, requests, warnings, advice and invitation” we use the structure:
Ex: - “Please don’t smoke in my car” John said.
S + Verb + Object +not + To- V (infi)
We use structure: to tell / to ask sb not to do smt ( b¶o hay yªu cÇu ai ®õng lµm g×)
John asked me not to smoke in his car.
2. Reported offers and suggestions
S + VERB + TO- INFINITIVE
In order to report “offers, promises, refuses and
threats… with infinitive” we use struture.
=> Nam offered to help Mai.
=> He promised to be careful.
=> She threatened to punish me.
a- “Can I help you, Mai?” said Nam.
b- “I’ll be careful.”
c- “I will punish you.”
Example
* Exercise: Fill in each gap with the suitable reporting verb from the box

III- PRACTICE:
Task 1: Complete the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first one, using the words given
1- “We’ll come back again.”
2- “You’d better not swim too far from the shore,” the lifeguard said to us.
3- “Could you close the window?” John said to Peter.
=> They promised to come back again.
=> The lifeguard advised us not to swim too far from the shore.
=> John asked Peter to close the window.
4- “You should join the football team, Eric,” said the teacher.
5- “I’ll give it to him tomorrow,” John said.
6- “I’d like Lan to become a doctor,” my mum said.
7- “Remember to lock the door before going to school,” my sister said.
8- “You should go home and rest for a while,” said the boss.
=> The teacher encouraged Eric to join the football team.
=> John promised to give it to him the following day.
=> My mum wanted Lan to become a doctor.
=> My sister reminded me to lock the door before going to school.
=> His boss advised him to go home and rest for a while.
Exercise 2: Write the following sentences in reported speech, using the right form of the words given in the brackets
1- “You should not drink too much beer.” (ADVISE)
2- “Come and see me whenever you want.” (INVITE)
3- “Please don’t smoke in my car.” (ASK)
4- “Sue, give me your phone number.” (TELL)
5. “ Don’t forget to give the book back to Joe.” ( REMIND)
6. “ I’ ll never do it again.” ( PROMISE)
7. “ All right, I’ll wait for you.” ( AGREE)
8. “ Please, lend me some money.” (ASK)
=> She advised me not to drink too much beer.
=> He invited her to come and see him whenever she wanted.
=> The taxi driver asked me not to smoke in his car.
=> Jack told Sue to give him her phone number.
=> He reminded me to give it to Joe.
=> He promised not to do it again
=> He agreed to wait for me
=> John asked her to lend him some money.
