II. GRAMMAR
THE + ADJECTIVE
THE + ADJ= COMMON NOUN (plural)
rich (adj) the rich= rich people
deaf (adj) the deaf = deaf people
wrong (adj) the wrong = wrong things
Right (adj) the right = right things
Use: we use the + adj to describe a group of people/ things as a whole
Ex: The young have the future in their hands
= Young people have the future in their hands
Note: “The + adj” is followed by a plural verb
Ex: the dumb (be)…………….. people who can’t speak
are
Exercise 1: Complete the sentences using the + one of the adjectives.

2. Used to + infinitive
Meaning:
Đã từng / Đã thường hay...
Form:
(+) S+ used to + V(bare inf).
(?)Did + S + use to + V(bare inf).
(-) S+didn’t use to + V(bare inf).
I used to cry at night when I was young.
Use: express a past habit , action or state
Ex: I always cried at night when I was young.
- I didn’t use to cry at night…………………...
- Did you use to cry at night………………..?
Note:
Used to + bare-inf / be used to + V(ing)
Used to + bare-inf: past habits, actions
Ex: he used to smoke a lot. (now he stops smoking)
Be / get used to + V (ing): be accustomed to a state in present.
Ex: I’m used to driving my new car. (at first, I found it very strange)

II. Exercise 2:Complete the sentences with used to...+a suitable verb.
3. Which as a connector
Meaning:
Điều mà, cái mà, mà.......
Ex2: She is ill. This makes me bored
= Liz used to have a motorbike which she sold last year.
Ex1: Liz used to have a motorbike. She sold it last year.
= She is ill, which makes me bored.
Use: Which is used in relative clauses to refer the whole of earlier clauses.
Which= a motobike. Which relative pronoun
Which = she is ill. Which connector
note: There is often a comma (,) in these clauses.
Exercise 3: join a sentence from A with one from B to make a new sentence. Use Which
Keys: 1e; 2 c; 3 f; 4 g; 5 a; 6 d; 7 b
1 e: Sheila couldn’t come to the party, which was a pity.
