II. GRAMMAR
1.The + adjective = N (a group of people)
Eg1 : old ( adj) The old (n) = old people
rich (adj) The rich (n) = Rich people
Eg2: - The old like living in the countryside.
- The rich often have a lot of money.
- The rich are not always happy.
Usage: Common nouns are used to describe a group of people, so they are followed by a plural verb.
Exercise 1:
Complete these sentences using “The + one of the adjectives”:
injured, poor, rich, sick, unemployed, young
1) The young have the future in their hands.
2) Ambulances arrived at the scene of the accident and took ……………to hospital.
3) Life is all right if you have a job, but things are not so easy for…………………….

2. Used to + infinitive
Usage: Used to + infinitive is used to express a past habit.
(DiÔn t¶ thãi quen trong qu¸ khø)
Eg : I used to have a bike 5 yeas ago.
Form:
(+) S + used to + V (infinitive) + o
(-) S+ didn’t + use to + V (infinitive) +o
(?) Did + S+ use to + V (infinitive) +o?
Egs: She used to live in London three years ago
She didn’t use to live in London three years ago
