The upper secondary education lasts 3 years, from the age of 15 to 17. If they want to sit for the entrance exam to universities or colleges they have to take the national examination for GCSE which takes place in the beginning of June. The academic year lasts 9 months from September 5th to the end of May. It is divided into 2 terms. The first term is from September to December and the second term lasts from January to May. Students have a 3-month summer holiday after the second term.
