I. Pronunciation
RULE: – ED ending sound
We add -ED to a REGULAR VERB in the SIMPLE PAST. It is pronounced /id/, /t/ and /d/.
a) /id/: when the word ends with the sounds / t/ or /d/
b) /t/: when the word ends with the sounds /k/,/p/,/f/,/s/, /∫/,/ t∫/
c) /d/ when the words end with other consonants and vowels except those in (a) and (b).
Exceptions:
naked, sacred, aged, learned, legged, dogged, beloved, wicked, blessed, crooked, naked, ragged, rugged, wretched
