Objectives
1. Educational aim: Students should have true understanding about love and marriage so that they will have a happy marriage in the future.
2. Knowledge
General knowledge: Students learn about the key values of love and marriage and the different opinions between the Americans and the Asians on these values.
Language: Words and phrases related to the topic
3. Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.
Method: Integrated, mainly communicative

Play a game
II. Before you read
*Activity 1: Discussion
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to discuss the question in the textbook.
- Call on 3 Ss to give their answers
- Give comments on Ss` answers
*Activity 2: Vocabulary pre-teaching
- Provide Ss with some words and phrases
+ contractual (adj)
+ physical atractiveness
+ reject(v)
+ counterpart(n)
+ be attracted to
- Read the above words and phrases and ask Ss to repeat(twice).
- Call on 2 Ss to read again.
- Correct Ss` pronunciation
III. While you read
1. Reading
- Ask Ss to read the passage then answer the question" What is the passage about?"
- Call on 1 s to give his/her answer, others comment.
2. Tasks
* Task 1
- Read the task demand
- Have Ss work in pairs to do
- Go round to check and offer help
- Call on 5 Ss to answer
- Check the answers with the whole class
Suggested answers
1. happen or exist before
2. find out
3. tell someone about something very private or secret
4. willingly stop having something you want
5. having a duty to do something
* Task 2
- Read the task demand
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to answer these questions.
- Go round to check and offer help if necessary
- Call on 2 Ss to write their answers on the board( S1 answers questions number 1, 2, 3; S2 answers questions number 4,5)
- Check their answers with the whole class
IV. After you read
- Ask Ss to work in groups of 8 to discuss the question in the textbook.
- T may give Ss some suggestions

+ who takes care of the housework and children................
- Go round to check and offer help when necessary
- Call on 2 Ss to present in front of the class
- Give comments and marks
V. Homework
- Write task 2 again
- Do excercises in the workbook
- Guide Ss to prepare for the speaking lesson in advance

- Look at the board, listen to the teacher and write down
- Listen and repeat(twice)

1. They are Physical atractiveness,Confiding, Partnership of equals and Trust built on love.
2. The young Americans are much more concerned than the young Indians and the Chinese with physical atractiveness when choosing a wife or a husband.
3. The Indian students agree that a woman has to sacrifice more in a marriage than a man.
4. The American wife trusts her husband to do the right thing because he loves her not because he has to.
5. The main finding of the survey is that young Asians are not as romantic as their American counterparts.
