Unit 13: Speaking
(Week 30)
M.V.Lomonosov High School
Student’s name: Nguyen Thi Yen
Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Express and talk about their hobbies in various way.
Use certain expression or sentences patterns to show their hobbies and talk about their collection.
Be fluent in sharing ideas about their hobbies to others.
Assumed knowledge:
Students:
Have already known some vocabulary items related to the topic “hobbies”.
Have already known some simple structures to talk about hobbies like “like”, “love”, “prefer”, “enjoy”.
Be students are familiar with pair/group work.
Anticipated problem:
Class time management, there may be time left, so teacher should prepare an extra activity.
Some students may be too shy to speak, so teacher should be ready to encourage them.
Teaching aids: books, tape, cassette, visual aids.
Time required: 45 minutes

Warm-up
(5-7 minutes)
Teacher goes around the class and asks from 3 to 5 students to share their hobbies by these questions.
What is your hobby?
How often do you do it?
Why do you like it?
Teacher shows some pictures describing some hobbies and asks students what they are. Then teacher put these pictures on the board and divides whole class into 4 groups.
Students answer these questions.
Each student from each group goes to the board. After teacher says an activity, students have to slap the picture as quickly as possible. The quickest student slapping correct picture will get one point for his/her group.
Help students concentrate and brainstorm vocabulary related to the topic.
Check students’ preparation for new lesson.

Pre-speaking
(13 – 15 minutes)
Activity 1: Giving sample
Teacher plays an audio about four people talking about their hobby and the reason why they would like to do it. Teacher asks students to do the exercise in handout* (handout 1).
Teacher calls some students to give answers and asks them to talk about each speaker’s hobbies and the reason why they like it.
Activity 2: Ask students to revise some expressions

Use: talk about hobby.

Students listen to the interview and do the exercise in the handout.
Students give answers and talk about speakers’ hobbies.


Give the form of expression their hobbies.

Students can talk about others’ hobbies and the reason why they like it.


Students remember some ways to talk about their hobbies.

While-speaking
(15 – 17 minutes)
Activity 3: Music chair
Class is divided into 4 groups. Each group is given 10 marks in advance. In each round, eachgroup assigns a member to join the game.
Students have to walk around the chairs (the number of the chairs is less than the number of people walking) while the music is playing. When the music stops, students have to quickly sit down on 1 chair.
The people who do not have a seat have to talk about their hobby. If they cannot respond quickly after 5 seconds, their groups will be minus 1 point. Afterthe game, the group which has got the highest score will be the winner.
Activity 4: Interview and report.
Teacher asks students work in pair to find out the hobby of their partners by asking questions.

Teacher finds out and correct some common mistakes in students’ utterances.

Write down their homework in the notebook.
