Van Cao was born on 15th November, 1923 in Nam Dinh, into a poor workers family. He composed music when he was very young. He composed his first song in 1939 and quickly became famous. Tien Quan Ca - The Vietnamese National Anthem, was composed in 1944. His artistic works were songs, poems and paintings. He died in 1995.
