The rules for Verb +s or Noun +s
* /f/ ,/k/ , /p/ , /t/ , /θ/ + s : /s/
Examples : Works ,cats , stops , …
* /b/ ,/d/ , /l/ , /m/ , /n / ,/g/, / r/ ,/v/, /ŋ/ , vowels + s : /z/
Examples : Means, sings, climbs,stays ….
I.2 Practise the sentences
1.Susan loves classical music.
2. I like to listen to jazz records.
3.My aunt likes to watch the film “ The sound of music”
4. But my cousin prefers going to concerts.
5. He’s won the first prize for singing folk songs.
6. I’d like a piece of bread and some peas, please.
II. Grammar
1. To + infinitive :
Example :
- What does Susan listen to Pop music for?
- Susan listens to Pop music to relax.
- To relax, Susan listens to
Pop music.
Form: What …………… for?
1- To + infinitive, Clause.
2- Clause to + infinitive.
Usage:
- “To-infinitive” is used to express the purpose.
- “To- infinitive” can be placed at the beginning or at the end of a sentence.
Eg:1- We learn hard to get good marks.
2- To have a good health, I usually play sport.
Exercise 1 : Use the words in brackets to answer the questions.
1. I phoned her to tell her the good news.
2. I’m saving money to buy a cassette player.
3. She practises singing all day to win the singing contest.
4. I’m learning French to sing French songs.
5. The monitor always goes to class on time to set a good example for the class.
Exercise 2 :Complete each sentence with the right form of a suitable verb.
1.My father didn’t have time to read the newspaper.
2. I wish I had enough money to buy a new bicycle.
3. I went to the post office to post a letter.
4. He telephoned to invite me to the party.
5. She’s going to Britain to learn English.
2. WH - question
- What : action/idea (listen to the music)
- What time : time (at 7 a.m)
- When : time (last month/ in the morning)
- Who : person (Elizabeth)
- Why : reason (because)
- How : manner (good, bad)
- Where : place (in Thai Nguyen city)
Usage: Wh- Questions are used to find out more informatin about topics.
Ex:
- My favourite singer is My Linh.
=> Who is your favourite singer?
- Phong often goes to bed at 10 p.m.
=> What time does Phong go to bed?
Form: WH-question + Aux (TĐT) + S + V?
Exercise 3 : Ask questions for the underlined words or phrases in the sentences.
1.What will you do if it rains ?
2. What kind of music does your father enjoy listening to ?
3. When did he leave for Ho Chi Minh City ?
4. Who wants to talk to you ?
5. How did you spend the evening last night ?
6. What time does the film start ?
7. Who is your favourite musician ?
8. Why do you like pop music ?
