TTO - Lúc 19g (giờ Hà Nội) ngày 26-3, ông Charles Simonyi, tỉ phú 60 tuổi người Mỹ gốc Hungary, trở thành nhà du hành đầu tiên trên thế giới hai lần du hành vào vũ trụ.
Cùng đi với với ông Simonyi là hai nhà du hành Gennady Padalka (người Nga) và Michael Barratt (người Mỹ). Họ lên tàu vũ trụ Soyuz TMA-14 của Nga, bay từ sân phóng vũ trụ Baikonur (Kazakhstan), sẽ nối tiếp với Trạm vũ trụ quốc tế vào ngày 28-3.
Năm 2007, ông Simonyi thực hiện chuyến du hành vũ trụ đầu tiên, là nhà du hành vũ trụ thứ năm và là người Hungary thứ hai đi vào vũ trụ. Ông chi tổng cộng 60 triệu đôla cho cả hai chuyến bay. “Tôi không thể bay lần thứ ba, vì tôi đã kết hôn và tôi cần phải dành thời gian cho gia đình” - ông nói trước khi bay.
Ông Charles Simonyi làm giàu từ khi trực tiếp điều hành hoạt động phát triển những phần mềm đem lại lợi nhuận lớn nhất cho Microsoft là Word và Excel. Rời Microsoft năm 2002, ông thành lập Công ty phần mềm Intentional Software. Những nghiên cứu đột phá trong công nghệ thông tin giúp ông giành giải Transformation Award của Trường kinh doanh Wharton (thuộc ĐH danh tiếng Pennsylvania, Mỹ) năm 2004.
