I/ PASSIVE FORM
1. Passive form ( simple present)
Example:
She cleans the floor everyday.
The floor is cleaned by her every day
2. They eat potatoes for lunch.
Potatoes are eaten for lunch by them.
3. That woman helps me do this work.
I am helped do this work by that woman.
FORM:
Active: S + V + O + …
Passive: S + Be (am/ is/ are) + Ved/ V3 + by O
Exercise
Change these sentences into passive.
Somebody cleans the room every day.
The room is cleaned by somebody everyday.
2. How do people learn languages?
How are languages learned?
3. Mr Robinson teaches me how to speak English
I am taught how to speak English by Mr. Robinson.
4. People play football all over the world.
Football is played all over the world by people.
5. Do they speak English and French in Canada?
=> Are English and French spoken in Canada by them?

Example:
Break the glass into small pieces.
The glass is broken into small pieces.

2. Passive form ( simple future/ modal verbs)
Example:
1. He will have a party on his birthday.
=> A party will be had on his birthday by him.
2. They can do these exercises.
These exercises can be done by them.
3. She should practice the piano everyday.
The piano should be practiced by her everyday.
FORM:
Active: S + modal verb + V + O + …
Passive: S + modal verb + be + Ved/ V3 + by O
Exercise
Change these sentences into passive.
John will collect me at the airport.
I will be collected at the airport by John.
2. Your teacher must sign this form.
This form must be signed by your teacher.
3. Our teacher will hold a class discussion next Monday.
A class discussion will be held by our teacher next Monday.
4. Will you invite her to your birthday party?
Will she be invited to your birthday by you?
5. We can’t wear jeans at work.
=> Jeans can’t be worn at work by us.
