TENSES
I -Active and Passive Sentences (Câu chủ động và câu bị động) .
1. Active sentences(Câu chủ động) : là câu trong đó chủ ngữ là người hay vật thực hiện hành động.
E.g 1: They built this house in 1486.
E.g 2 : This book will change your life.
2. Pasive sentences(Câu bị động) là câu trong đó chủ ngữ là người hay vật nhận hoặc chịu tác động của hành động.
E.g 1: This house was built in 1486.
E.g 2 :Your life will be changed by this book.

Form ( hình thức):
Subject + be + past participle (V3) (+ by +agent)

Eg : This tree was planted by my grandfather
S be + pp by + o (agent)

Use(cách dùng)
Passive sentence được dùng trong những trường hợp sau :
1.Khi người hoặc vật thực hiện hành động đã rõ ràng.
E.g : The street are swept every day.(by street-aweepers)
2. Khi không cần thiết hoặc không cần biết đến người hoặc vật thực hiện hành động.
E.g 1: Oil has been discovered at the North Pole.
E.g 2 : A lot of money has been stolen in the robbery.
3.Khi người nói muốn nhấn mạnh người hoăc vật tiếp nhận hành động.
E.g : This house was built by Sir John Latton in 1486.

Active : S + V + O
Passive : S + BE + V3( P.P) + ( BY +AGENT)

-Chú ý :
+ Nếu chủ ngữ trong câu chủ động là tên riêng xác định thì ta sử dụng lại trong câu bị động làm tân ngữ theo sau gới từ “by”.E.g: Mr Pike, Ms Mary,…
E.g : This car is repaired by Mr Pike
+ Các chủ ngữ I, we ,you ,they ,she ,he ,it ,one ,people ,someone, somebody ,..trong câu chủ động thường được lược bỏ,không dùng trong câu bị động.
E.g: Someone has stolen my bicycle.
My bicycle has been stolen.
-Trạng từ chỉ thời gian thì đứng sau”by”
- E.g : The report was typed by the secretary this morning
-Trạng từ chỉ địa điểm thì đứng trước”by”
E.g : He was found in the forest by the police
Active : Jane cleans the floor every day .
Passive : The floor is cleaned by Jane everyday .

S + IS / AM / ARE + P.P( + BY+O)
Simple present :
Active : Jane is cleaning the floor now .
Passive : The floor is being cleaned by Jane now.
Present continuous
S + IS / AM / ARE + BEING + P.P (+BY + O)
Present perfect
Active : The floor looks nice . Jane has cleaned it.
Passive : The floor looks nice . It has been cleaned by Jane .
S + HAS / HAVE+ BEEN + P.P (+BY + O)
Simple past
Active : Jane cleaned the floor yesterday .
Passive : The floor was cleaned by Jane yesterday .
S + WAS / WERE + P.P (+BY + O)

Past continuous
Active :Jane was cleaning the floor when I arrived .
Passive:The floor was being cleaned by Jane when I arrived .
S + WAS / WERE + BEING + P.P (+BY + O)
Simple future
Active :The floor looks dirty . Jane will clean it tomorrow.
Passive : The floor looks dirty . It will be cleaned by Jane tomorrow.
S + WILL /SHALL+ BE + P.P
(+ by +O)
Modal verb
Active: Jane can clean the house
Passive: the house can be cleaned by Jane
S+ Modal verb +be +P.P+(by +O)
1970
They built this building in 1970.
Building / build
This building was built in 1970 .
