Period 1: Reading(P3)
Date: August 22nd
Objectives
1. Educational aim: Students should appreciate their families, know how hard their parents are trying to do to bring them up,and be willing to help their Mums and Dads with the household chores.
2. Knowledge
General knowledge: Students learn about the life of a current family in Vietnam.
Language: Words and phrases related to home life.
3. Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.
Method: Integrated, mainly communicative.
Teaching aids: Textbook, posters, handouts.
Procedure

I. Warm-up (5 min)
Game: Help in the home
(page 139- Play games with English)
- Prepare handouts on which there are pictures of various kinds of housework. Ask Ss to work in groups of 4 to tell the daughter in the picture what to do, using imperative sentences (Eg: Please fill the kettle- Picture 1)
- Call on 2 quickest groups to show their answers on the board. The group that has more correct answers will be the winner.
- Ask Ss to guess what they are going to learn about, then lead to the reading lesson.
II. Before you read(10 min)
*Activity 1: Describing the picture
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer the following questions:
Q1: How many people are there in the family?
Q2: Where is the family?
Q3: What is each member of the family doing?
Q4: Is the family happy? Why(not)?
- Call on 2 pairs to perform.
- Give comments on Ss`doing.
*Activity 2: Vocabulary pre-teaching
- Provide Ss with some words and phrases that appear in the reading passage.
+ work on a night shift: work at night at an office/a hospital........
+ take the responsibility for : be responsible for.
+ willing(adj):
+ household chore(n):
+ pressure (n):
under pressure
+ come up: appear
+ attempt(v):
- Read the above words and phrases and ask Ss to repeat.
- Call on 2 Ss to read again.
- Correct Ss` pronuciation.
- Ask Ss to give some examples with the above words
III. While you read (20 min)
1. Reading(5 min)
- Ask Ss to read the text in 4 minutes then answer the questions:
Q1: By whom was this text written?
Q2: what does she do now?
- Ask Ss to compare their ansers with their partners.
- Call on 1 S to answer the questions, the rest comment.
2. Tasks(15 min)
*Task 1: Multiple choices(7 min)
- Read the task demand.
- Ask Ss to read the task carefully, pay attention to the italicized words and phrases, read the passage again quickly , stop at the lines that contain these ones to guess their meanings based on the contexts in the sentences.
- Check that Ss understand the words, phrases correctly by asking them to provide the Vietnamese equivalents to the words.
- Have Ss to work individually to do the task.
- Call on 1 S to write the answers on the board, ask the rest to share the answers with their partners.
- Correct the doing on the board.
*Task 2: Questions and answers(8 min)
- Read the task demand.
- Have Ss work in pairs to ask and answer the given questions.
- Go round to check and offer help when necessary.
- Call on 5 pairs to ask and answer respectively.
- Correct Ss`
IV. After you read(8 min)
- Ask Ss to work in groups of 4 to do this part.
- T may give some suggestions:
* Similarities and diffrences
+The size of the family.
+ Both parents work/only father works...
+ All the members of the familyshare/only mother does the household chores.
+ Yours is a close-knit family or not.
- Call on two representatives from 2 groups to speak in front of the class.
- Give comments and marks.
V. Homework(2 min)
1. Learn new words and phrases by heart.
2. Write task 2 again.
3. Do Part A at pages 4-6 in the workbook.
4. Prepare part B: Speaking in advance(guide Ss to prepare this).
- Work in groups of 4 to (3 min).
- Two quickest
