All around Viet Nam
On the 15th of August Lunar calendar
Children play and have a party with moon cakes, lanterns and other toys.
According to the traditions, they have this party to protect children from a very big bad bear.
Mid-Autumn festival is a traditional celebration for Vietnamese children. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month in the middle of autumn and it lasts for one day. On this day, Moon Cakes are indispensible, and children are provided with nice lanterns and masks of all kinds and shapes. They carry their lanterns, wear funny masks and parade the house’s grounds or the streets, performing unicorn dances, singing folklore songs when the moon is rising to full. Mid-Autumn Festival is a chance for parents to spend time with their children and do something special with them, as well as celebrate the harvest after spending much time working hard on the crops. It is really an exciting festival.
