Lesson 1: ADJECTIVES AND ADVERBS
A. Nhiều trạng từ chỉ thể cách trong Tiếng Anh được hình thành bằng cách thêm đuôi Ly sau tính từ. Nếu tận cùng bằng Y, thì chuyển Y thành i trước khi thêm Ly. Nếu tận cùng bằng IC thì ta thường thêm AL trước khi thêm Ly. Nếu tận cùng là PLE hoặc BLE thì ta bỏ E rồi thêm Y.
Example:

S1: Is Peter a good worker?
S2: yes, he works very well.
S3: Paul is a careful driver.
S4: I think so. He drives carefully.

Notes:
1. adjective +ly = adverb of manner.
Careful ( carefully beautiful ( beautifully
Careless ( carelessly cheerful ( cheerfully
Happy ( happily joyful ( joyfully
Noisy ( noisily wonderful ( wonderfully
Busy ( busily wide ( widely.
2. Some adjectives and adverbs are the same: hard ,far , fast , early , late , long .
3. Subject + Verb + Object +Adverb of manner.

Ex:
Mr Thanh Phan speaks English well.
Timothy and Kithy played catch joyfully.

4. Adjectives thường theo sau một số động từ nối như: be, become, get , feel, look, seem, grow(trở nên), appear (trông có vẻ), taste, smell, sound (nghe có vẻ)
PRACTICE :
Choose the right word
1. Shut the window (quiet / quietly) please.
2. I always feel (nervous / nervously) before evry exam.
3. What a bad guy! Whenever he’s drunk, he always talk(rude / rudely.)
4. You look (horrible / horribly) .Are you OK?
5. My children are playing (happy / happily) in the front yard.
6. The waitress answered (calm / calmly) when the customer asked for help.
7. Our holidas were too short. The time passes very (quick / quickly).
8. The child became violent / violently) when his friend threw him a snake.
9. The chauffeur of the bus was (serious/ seriously)injured.
10. Her niece behaved very (selfish / selfishly) .
11. The girl looed at me (angry / angrily) when I walked past her.

13. It wasn’t serious accident. The car only (slight / slightly) damaged.
14. Tomy and Henry often wear (colourful / colourfully) clothes.
15. I will be very (happy / happily) if you share optimism.
Give the appropriate advers of manner for these following sentences:

B. Adjectives + that-clause:
Cấu trúc này được sử dụng với các tính từ chỉ cảm xúc hoặc sự chắc chắn, có thể. Sau đây là một số tính từ có thể được sử dụng trong cấu trúc này.


Eg: + I’m disappointed that you failed the exam.
+ My parents are happy that I do well at school.
Lưu ý động từ ở mệnh đề That sau các tính từ sau:



Structure: It + be + that + S + V(bare-inf) / should + V(bare-inf)
Eg: + It is essential that they / he study hard.
It is essential that they / he should study hard.
PRACTICE :
Combine each pair of sentences into one:
I’m certain. She saw me.
He didn’d come. I’m surprised.
