Tradition of the UK

On 14 of February.
People send Valentine cards to the person they love. They are usually sent with no name on.
People also put messages in newspapers to their loved one.


More important in Scotland: go for a party & wait for midnight to come, wishing each other “Happy New Year”.
In London: - celebrate New Year in Trafalgar Square where they can hear Big Ben strike midnight.


On a Sunday towards the end of March.
Children send cards and presents such as some flowers or chocolates to show their gratitude to their mothers.
In the U.S.: on the 2nd Sunday of March.


BIRTHDAY
There is often a birthday cake with candles to be blown out and everyone sings Happy Birthday.
People send birthday cards and perhaps there is a birthday party with their friends.

Presents are exchanged – a large dinner with turkey and Christmas pudding.
Decorate the house, have a Christmas tree.

For children, Santa Claus (Father Christmas) visits early in the morning and leaves presents by the children’s beds or under the tree.


People get married in a church for a religious ceremony or a registry office for a civil ceremony.
Rice or confetti is thrown at the bride and groom to wish them luck, and the bride often carries a horseshoe to symbolize good luck.

There is a party afterwards called a reception. They then may go on a holiday called a honeymoon.

A Sunday in March or April when Christians remember the death of Christ and his return to life.
No fixed tradition of ways to celebrate Easter.
Children receive chocolate Easter eggs.
