EXPLORE THE WORLD FESTIVAL
Tet is a national and family festival. It is an occasion for every Vietnamese to have a good time while thinking about the last year and the next year. At Tet, spring fairs are organized, streets and public buildings are brightly decorated and almost all shops are crowded with people shopping for Tet. At home, every is tidied, special food is cooked, offerings of food, fresh water, flowers and betel are made on the family altar with burning joss- sticks scenting the air. First-footing is made when the lucky visitor comes and children are given lucky money wrapped in a red tiny envelope. Tet is also a time for peace and love. During Tet, children often behave well and friends, relatives and neighbors give each other best wishes for the new year.
Hung King temple festival is annually heid from 8th to 11th of third month in lunar calendar with the main festival day falling on 10th on which Vietnamese working people day off. Like other festivals in the northern part of Viet Nam, this festival includes two parts: the incense- offering ceremony and the recreational activities
Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31st. The most common colors of the day are orange and black. Halloween comes from the ancient Celtic festival Samhain.
The ancient Celts believed that on October 31st, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the living and the deceased is not clear, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops.
On Halloween, the ancient Celts would place a skeleton by their window to represent the dead. Believing that the head was the most powerful part of the body, containing the spirit and knowledge, the Celts used the "head" of the vegetable to decorate their houses.
On this day people often wear strange clothes as characters in horrible novels or movies to frighten others.
People usually like to dress as ghosts, skeletons, or witches. Now Halloween is an official holiday in almost all European countries.
Valentine`s Day or Saint Valentine`s Day is a holiday which is celebrated on February 14th by many people around the world.
In English-speaking countries, it is the traditional day on which lovers show their love to each other by sending Valentine`s cards, giving flowers, or going out for dinner together.
One of the most common presents on this day is chocolate. The holiday is named after a Christian priest – Valentine. The most common symbol of St. Valentine’s Day is Cupid - the Roman saint of love.
Cupid is a young boy with a bow and arrow. The first St. Valentine’s Day was in England, and then spread around the world including many countries in Europe, Asia, and South America.
However in some countries such as India, Valentine’s Day is not allowed. In India, many lovers are not even allowed to go out together or show their love to each other in public places.
From very old days, Christmas is well known all around the world for its special features. It is usually held in the last month of year, when people prepare for new year. I love Christmas for many reasons. First, it maintains cozy atmosphere and mutual care and share between people. During the holiday, people gather together to decorate house, prepare delicious meal and spend time doing good things. People share thought, feeling and opinion to each other. They also behave well with others to show their kindness, love and care for both relative and friends. Christmas tree plays an important role as everyone prepares and decorates it with colorful electric lights, gift and little detail. During Christmas, a lot of delicious dishes are made such as: fried chicken, bbq, sweet cake and candy and so on. People enjoy making meal and clean their house and street in the town so as to hope for good thing and best wish for everyone. Although Christmas weather is cold, one feels cozy and not lonely when being with their beloved. Christmas is said to be one of the biggest holiday of a year especially in European countries. They celebrate Christmas as a special party for everyone to join and have wonderful time together. In my opinion, Christmas is not only a usual holiday but also tradition and culture, which reflect human’s lifestyle.
THANK YOU
