Ex: Mai and Nam are listening to K-pop now.

I. Simple sentences (Câu đơn)

Để nối 2 mệnh đề:
Sử dụng dấu phẩy (,) trước and, but, so, yet...

Sử dụng dấu chấm phẩy (;) trước however, therefore, nevertheless, moreover……) và theo sau đó là dấu phẩy (,)
-Ex: My students love studying English, and they are trying to revise it carefully for the next test.

-Ex: The bus was very crowded; therefore, I has to stand all the way.
II. Compound sentences (Câu ghép):
Là câu chứa 2 (hay nhiều hơn) các mệnh đề độc lập

A compound sentence with a coordinating conjunction. "FAN BOYS":

Others: however, nevertheless, moreover, therefore, otherwise
Examples:
Joe waited for the train, but the train was late.
During Tet, Vietnamese people buy all kinds of sweets, and they make chung cake as well.
The Hung King Temple Festival was a local festival; however, it has become a public holiday in Viet Nam since 2007.

3. COMPLEX SENTENCES
(CÂU PHỨC)
Là câu chứa một mệnh đề độc lập và một hay nhiều mệnh đề phụ thuộc.
Mệnh đề phụ thuộc có thể bắt đầu bằng liên từ phụ thuộc hoặc đại từ quan hệ (như when, while, because,although/ even though hoặc if).
Nếu mệnh đề phụ thuộc đứng trước mệnh đề độc lập thì trước mệnh đề độc lập phải có dấu phẩy (,).
Ex: Because the bus was crowded, I had to stand all the way.
While the elephants are racing, people cheer to encourage them.

III.COMPLEX SENTENCES
(CÂU PHỨC)
Còn nếu mệnh đề độc lập đứng trước mệnh đề phụ thuộc thì trước mệnh đề phụ thuộc không có dấu phẩy (,).
Ex: I had to stand all the way because the bus was crowded.
People cheer to encourage the elephants while they are racing.
Câu phức sử dụng liên từ phụ thuộc (after, although, as, before, how, if, once, since, than, that, though, till, until, when, whether, while,……) để nối các vế của câu.
Ex: We had left before he arrived.
