Tia X (X - Ray, Tia X quang hay tia Röntgen ): một dạng của sóng điện từ, có bước sóng: 0,01÷10nm, tương ứng với dãy tần số từ 30 Petahertz ÷ 30 Exahertz và năng lượng từ 120 eV÷120 keV. Bước sóng của nó ngắn hơn tia tử ngoại nhưng dài hơn tia Gamma.

Đặc tính:
Tia X có khả năng xuyên qua nhiều vật chất.
Được dùng trong chụp ảnh y tế, nghiên cứu tinh thể, kiểm tra hành lý hành khách trong ngành hàng không.

Đặc tính:
- Tia X có khả năng gây ion hóa hoặc các phản ứng có thể nguy hiểm cho sức khỏe con người, do đó bước sóng, cường độ và thời gian chụp ảnh y tế luôn được điều chỉnh cẩn thận để tránh tác hại cho sức khỏe.
Tia X cũng được phát ra bởi các thiên thể trong vũ trụ, do đó nhiều máy chụp ảnh trong thiên văn học cũng hoạt động trong phổ tia X.

Đặc tính:
- Những tia X có bước sóng từ 0,01 nm ÷0,1 nm có tính đâm xuyên mạnh hơn nên gọi là tia X cứng.
Những tia X có bước sóng từ 0,1 nm ÷ khoảng vài nm có tính đâm xuyên yếu hơn được gọi là tia X mềm.

Phát kiến: Do Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen phát hiện

Tối ngày 8 tháng 11 năm 1895, sau khi rời phòng thí nghiệm một quãng, sực nhớ quên chưa ngắt cầu dao điện cao thế dẫn vào ống tia catod, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen quay lại phòng và nhận thấy một vệt sáng màu xanh lục trên bàn tuy phòng tối om.
Với đầu óc nhạy bén, đầy kinh nghiệm của một nhà vật lý học, việc này đã lôi cuốn ông và 49 ngày sau ông liên tục ở lỳ trong phòng thí nghiệm, cơm nước do bà vợ tiếp tế, mỗi ngày ông chỉ ngừng công việc nghiên cứu ít phút để ăn uống, vệ sinh và chợp mắt nghỉ ngơi vài giờ. Nhờ thế, ông đã tìm ra tính chất của thứ tia bí mật mà ông tạm đặt tên là tia X và mang lại cho ông giải Nobel về vật lý đầu tiên vào năm 1901.

Lịch sử X quang chẩn đoán
Ngày 8/11/1895, nhà vật lý người Đức W.C.Roentgen ở Trường đại học Wuerzburg đã phát minh ra tia X.

- Ngày 23/01/1896, Roentgen đọc báo cáo trước hội vật lý Đức ở Wuerzburg, ông mời nhà giải phẫu nổi tiếng G. Koelliker làm một thí nghiệm nhỏ với bức ảnh bàn tay, cả hội nghị vang lên tiếng vỗ tay như sấm dậy.

- Hiện nay người ta lấy ngày 23/01/1896 là ngày sinh ngành chẩn đoán X-quang, nay gọi là chẩn đoán hình ảnh (diagnostic imaging) - một ngành khoa học có sự phối hợp chặt chẽ giữa vật lý và y học.

Nguyên lý tạo tia X
Cách tạo tia X: Ngày trước, người ta tạo ra tia X bằng ống Rơn-ghen, sau này người ta dùng ống Coolidge (Cu-lit-giơ)
Ống Rơn-ghen là một bình cầu (chứa khí áp suất thấp - gọi là khí kém) bên trong có 3 điện cực:
- Catốt có dạng chõm cầu có tác dụng làm các electron bật ra tập trung tại tâm của bình cầu.
- Anốt là điện cực dương ở phía đối diện với catốt ở thành bình bên kia.
- Đối catốt là một điện cực (thường được nối với anốt). Ở bề mặt của đối catốt là một kim loại có nguyên tử lượng lớn và khó nóng chảy.

Hoạt động: Đặt vào giữa anốt và catốt một hiệu điện thế không đổi (khoảng vài chục kV) thì electron bứt ra từ catốt được tăng tốc rất mạnh. Khi đập vào đối âm cực, các electron bị đột ngột hãm lại và làm phát ra tia X. Người ta gọi tia X là bức xạ hãm.

Ống Coolidge (Cu-lit-giơ):
Ban đầu, ống Cooligde có dạng một bình hình cầu bên trong là chân không và có 2 điện cực:
Catốt là một chõm cầu có tác dụng làm tập trung các electron về phía tâm của bình cầu.
Một dây tim để nung nóng catốt.(để catốt phát ra electron) được cấp điện nhờ một nguồn điện riêng.
Anốt là điện cực dương. Bề mặt của anốt là một lớp kim loại có nguyên tử lượng lớn và khó nóng chảy. Để giải nhiệt cho anốt người ta cho một dòng nước chảy luồn bên trong anốt nhờ một ống nhỏ.

Hoạt động: Khi đặt một hiệu điện thế (xoay chiều hoặc một chiều) vào hai cực của ống Coolidge thì electron được tăng tốc mạnh và đến đập vào anốt, xuyên sâu vào lớp vỏ nguyên tử của chất làm anốt, tương tác với các lớp electron ở các lớp trong cùng làm phát ra tia X.
Hiệu điện thế ở hai cực của ống Cooldge từ vài chục kV đến khoảng 120 kV.

1. Bóng phát tia X
Bộ phận quan trọng nhất của máy X quang, có nhiệm vụ tạo ra tia X:
Những phần chính của ống tia X bao gồm : cathode, anode, rotor, stator, vỏ bọc kim loai, vỏ bọc tia X.
Giữa âm cực (cathode) và dương cực (anode) là một điện thế gia tốc rất lớn từ 20-300KV, các electron được phát ra từ âm cực đốt nóng và được gia tốc bằng điện trường, chúng sẽ va chạm vào anode với 1 động năng nào đó.
Hầu như tất cả động năng ( 99% ) sẽ chuyển thành nhiệt năng, nên cực dương là nơi các electron từ cực âm bay đến sẽ rất nóng. Chỉ khoảng 1% động năng được biến đổi thành năng lượng tia X trong suốt quá trình xảy ra va chạm.

Đầu đèn, bóng X-quang:
- Bóng X-quang X50AH (Italy)
- Điện áp đỉnh max: 150 kV
- Góc và đường kính anode: 160 – 90 mm
- Tiêu thụ năng lượng cao nhất: 440 W (35 200 HU/min)
- Dung nhiệt lưu trữ anode: 150 kJ (200 kHU)
- Tốc độ xoay anode: 3000 vòng / phút
- Tiêu điểm và công suất: 0.6 mm (11kW), 1.2 mm (30 kW), 2.0 mm (50 kW).
- Kết hợp tiêu điểm: 0.6/2.0 – 1.2/2.0 (tùy chọn, chuẩn: 1.2/2.0)
2. Máy phát cao thế

Là một mạch biến áp và chỉnh lưu điện xoay chiều
Đây là nguồn cao thế cho bóng phát tia X
Có nhiều loại (tùy thuộc vào chỉnh lưu)

- Chỉnh lưu một pha toàn sóng.
- Cường độ cực đại: 100mA.
- Điện thế cực đại: 100kV.
3. Tủ điều khiển

Đây là bộ phận điều khiển toàn bộ hoạt động của hệ máy cho phép đặt thông số chụp và chương trình hoạt động của máy
Hoạt động chính xác của hệ điện tử của tủ điều khiển có vai trò quyết định chất lượng hình ảnh của X quang hoặc độ chính xác của phép đo

Thông số Bộ phận điều khiển:
o Nguồn cấp: AC220/ 50hz (1 pha).
o Hệ thống chống ngắn mạch và quá tải.
o Hệ thống đóng ngắt sử dụng SCR.
o Bộ định thời gian chụp: 0,02 – 5s.
o Bộ phận lựa chọn cường độ chụp:
o Tiêu điểm nhỏ: 50, 100mA
o Tiêu điểm lớn: 50, 200, 300mA
o Phạm vi lựa chọn Kv: 40-125kV, tinh chỉnh bởi 2 công tắc xoay
o Công tắc xoay chính: không hơn 5kV/mức
o Công tắc xoay phụ: không hơn 1kV/mức

Có tác dụng:
