PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
FORM
S + BE + V-ING
- I`m having dinner.
- We are studying English at the moment.
- It is raining heavily outside.
S+ BE+NOT+V-ING
I’m not getting up until 9 o’clock.
The child is not sleeping at the present!
They are not playing football now.
BE+S+V-ING?
- Are you waiting for a taxi?
- Is Anna playing guitar ?
- Are they going out together?
USAGE
We use The Present Continuous to talk about events happening around the present time.
- The children are singing loudly.
- I’m writing a letter to my friend now.
- He is swimming.
We use The Present Continuous after the suggestions, imperative sentences.
- Look! The bus is coming.
- Sit down! The strange dog is running to you.
- Listen! Somebody is singing outside.
We use the Present Continuous tense to talk about the future : for something which has been arranged or planned.
- Mary is going to a new school next term .
- He is coming tomorrow .
- I’m meeting her at 6 pm .

Senses: feel, hear, see, smell, taste, touch…
Example: He feels the cold.
Feelings: hate, hope, like, love, prefer, regret, want, wish…
Example: Jane loves pizza.
Brain work: believe, know, think, understand…
Example: I believe you.
NOTE: these verbs are not put in form V-ing
Exceptions when adding -ing
An e at the end of the word is removed (but: ee, oe and ye remain unchanged).
Example: come – coming
(but: agree – agreeing)
If the base verb ends in consonant + stressed vowel + consonant, double the last letter: (vowels = a, e, i, o, u)
stop → stopping
run → running
(but: open opening)
If the base verb ends in ie, change the ie to y:
lie → lying
die → dying

Please be quiet! My father is sleeping.
My sisters are listening to music at the moment.
