Jeans are the most popular kind of clothes in the world. Rich and poor people wear them.
In 1850, when Levi Strauss arrived in California he saw that the workers needed strong pants (clothes) so he began to make them. These pants were very strong and didn’t wear out easily.
Why are jeans popular? In the United States they are the only kind of traditional clothes. In other countries, young people wear them because they want to look modern. Jeans are sign of youth and independence. Everybody wears jeans because they want to be modern, young and independent.
