1. Product and Process writing: Similarities.
Steps:
Pre-writing (provide writing resources)
While- writing (Produce writing work)
Post- writing (Feedback)
Aims:
Introduce a form of writing.
Students practise the writing skill.
Teacher’s role:
Motivator.
Resource.
Feedback provider.
2. Product and Process writing: Differences.
Steps:
b. Aims:
Product approach: Ss can finish the writing tasks.
Process approach: Ss can make a draft on the writing task.
c. Teacher’s role:
Product approach: T gives feedback.
Process approach: T guides Ss to give feedback to their friends’/ their own writing, gives feedback to Ss’ final version.
3. Advantages and disadvantages of product / process approach:
a. Product Approach:
Advantages:
It saves time.
The tasks may be easier as Ss can copy from the models.
Disadvantages:
Ss have passive practice.
Ss may not have enough time to finish the tasks to meet the aim of the lesson.
b. Process Approach:
Advantages:
It motivates Ss’ activities and creative thinking.
Ss can form their writing skill and writing styles.
Ss can finish their works at home.
Disadvantages:
It is time-consuming
