THE HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS
1. The history of Christmas
.
Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth
He is a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion
It is believed that Lord Jesus Christ was born on 25th of May or June

in the manger of a stable
In the 4th century, the Church declared December 25th officially the Christ’s birthday
December 25--Christmas Day--has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1870.

CHRISTMAS TREE
A German preacher, Martin Luther, started the custom.
Much later, Germans brought the custom to America.
An evergreen tree symbolizes the everlasting of Christ Jesus
People light them on Christmas Eve as a guide to the Christ child.

HOLLY AND EVERGREENS
The American Holly is a wonderful evergreen tree
Holly wards off evil spirits.
The berries stand for the blood Christ shed.
The leaves stand for his crown of thorns.
Evergreens stay green all year and bear fruit in the winter.
They are a symbol of never-ending life.
The color white represents Christ`s purity,
