Sickle cell Anemia
Background Information
Sickle cell anemia is a life threatening disease that is triggered by low hemogoblin levels. According to scientists people carrying a sickle cell trait are more probable to deal adequately with malaria than others. In malaria scientists have discovered that huge portions of hemoglobin are released in to the blood flow once a rapture has occured within the red blood cells. However in sickle cell anemia the hemoglobin level is much lower. With this in mind one can easily conclude why the sickle cell trait possibly originated as a deterrent against malaria. Researchers have concluded that those infected with the disease tend to be those of African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Indian ancestry. Similarily enough scientists have discovered that malar ia like sickle cell anemia tend to occur in tropical regions.

Treatments
their is no exact cure for sickle cell anemia. Although doctors recommend certain antibiotics, fluids, transfusions, and pain killers, they are only meant to treat complications and symptoms. Although there is no cure (other than bone marrow transplantation) for sickle cell anemia, doctors know a great deal about how to treat it.People with sickle cell anemia need regular medical care. The goal of treatment is to relieve pain, prevent infections, and control complications if they occur. The treatments include:
Medications
Blood transfusions
Specific treatment for complications.
