I. Class description
Setting: A high school EFL class
Students: grade 10 students
Level: pre - intermediate
Class size: 40 students
Time: 90 minutes
Text book: Tieng Anh 10 – Ministry of Education Publisher
II. Objectives:
1. Educational aim:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas and guessing meaning in context.
Use the information they have read to talk about Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam
Write a summary about Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam
2. Knowledge:
General knowledge: about Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam
New words: Words related to historical places
3. Skills: scan for specific information and summarize, others skills such as listening, speaking and writing
III. Method:
- Integrated 4 skills, mainly communicative
III. Teaching aids:
Textbook, A0 size paper, pen, computers liked with Internet
IV. Materials used and web-based resources:
Hot Potatoes is used to design types of activities such as gap filling, multiple choices, matching and crosswords, for students to do easily and quickly.
Vocaroo is used to record the listening activities for students to listen.
Blogger is used to post the activities using Hot Potatoes.
All materials and web-based resource help students access and do the task conveniently and interesting. These also motivates students to study the lesson.
V. Anticipated problems:
Students may not have sufficient vocabulary to read and talk about the topic, so T should be ready to help them.

- T ask Ss some questions:
+ list some historical places you know in Vietnam.
- T shows some pictures about some historical places
+ Have you been there? When? With whom? ….?
- T asks students to guess the topic
- T introduces new lesson “ Historical places”

- T asks ss to listen to the tape about the text and underline new words in the text.

While you read
Set the scene: You are going to read about Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam, a famous historical and cultural relic of Hanoi and do the tasks that follow.
Task 1: Choose A, B or C that best suits the meaning of the italicized word.
− T introduces the task and gets Ss to click the link the do the task

− T calls on some Ss to read aloud the words. Then T instructs Ss to go back to the passage to locate and read around these words so that they can guess their meanings. For example, the word "originally" found in line 2 may be best replaced by "initially" because it refers to the beginning of the Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam.
