READING E6
Unit 1 : Mat Noh is a fisherman. Every morning, he leaves his house at four o`clock to go out to the sea. He and his friends set out in their fishing boats. They take their fishing nets with them. They often return to the shore at seven o`clock. Many people wait for the fishermen at the beach. These people want to buy fresh fish. Mat Noh always sells his catch to Mark. Mark takes the fish to the nearby market. He sells the fish to the housewives and makes some money
Unit 2 : My name is Lisa. I am 12 years old. I am in class 6 at Raffle Secondary School. It is a big and beautiful school. The school has a very tall gate with the name "Raffle Secondary School". After the gate, there is a big yard with many trees. Students love reading books, playing or chatting under the trees during recess. There is also a big playground with many wings next to school yard. Many students can play on the wings during recess. There are 20 classrooms in my school. Each classroom has 30 desks, 6 lights, a black board, a teacher`s table and a clock. All of us try to keep our classrooms clean. Each class has from 25 to 30 students. Students have right to choose their seats and I often sit on the first line because I can listen to the lesson more clearly. I learn about many interesting things at school, so I always want to go to school every day. I love my school.
Unit 3 : Peter Baker is a very busy man. He is 60 years old and he has thirteen jobs. He is a postman, a policeman, a fireman, a taxi driver, a school-bus driver, a boatman, an ambulance man, an accountant, a petrol attendant, a barman, and an undertaker. Also, he and his wife, Margaret, have a shop and a small hotel..
Peter Baker lives and works on the island of Gigha in the West of Scotland. Only 120 people live on Gigha but in summer 150 tourists come by boat every day.
Every weekday Peter gets up at 6:00 and makes breakfast for the hotel guests. At 8:00 he drives the island`s children to school. At 9:00 he collects the post from the boat and delivers it to all the houses on the island. He also delivers the beer to the island`s only pub. Then he helps Margaret in the shop.
He says: "Margaret likes being busy, too. We never have holidays and we don`t like watching television. In the evenings, Margaret makes supper and I do the account. At 10:00 we have a glass of wine and then we go to bed. Perhaps, our live isn`t very exciting, but we like it".
Unit 4 : Aunt Susie is very busy. She has a lot of work to do. She gets up early in the morning. She cleans the windows. She washes the floor. Then she goes to the market. She prepares for her family lunch at eleven o`clock and washes dishes after lunch. After that, she has a short nap. In the afternoon, she bakes cakes. Sometimes, she sweeps the garden and takes care of trees. At six o`clock, she cooks dinner. She checks her children`s homework about at 9 p.m. She tidies the house before she goes to bed.
Unit 5 : There are many places where people can study in. Peter studies in a primary school. His school has both boys and girls. It`s a co-educational school. Some schools have only boys or girls. These are known as single - sexed schools.
Peter`s little sister attends a kindergarten for three hours a day. Some children go to a childcare centre for the whole day when their parents are at work.
Peter`s mother is a teacher in a secondary school where she teaches students between thirteen and sixteen years old. In the evening, she learns to draw at home. The teaching materials and drawing lessons are posted to her weekly by the correspondence.
Peter`s father is an electronics technician. He is attending the university twice a week to obtain a degree.
Unit 6 : On most Sunday afternoon, The Smiths like to laze in their living room. It is a cosy and comfortable place. Mr Smith usually reads the newspapers. He can sit on his favourite armchair for hours without moving. Mrs Smith prefers to tend to her flowers in the garden. Sometimes, she admires them from the window.
John, the elder child, enjoys reading books. He likes to lie on the sofa with his pet dog, Bongo, next to him. Bongo eats a lot and loves to sleep near its master. It has been with the Smiths for ten years. Jane likes to watch television. She never misses her favourite programme - "Mr Bean". Sometimes, she helps her mother water the flowers in the garden. They both like flowers. The Smiths prefer to stay at home on Sundays. They do not like outdoor activities, neither
