Unit 6: THE ENVIRONMENT
In Britain, natural gas is the most popular fuel for heating homes, and for cooking. It is piped all over the country from the gas fields below the North Sea. Natural gas is used chiefly as a direct source of energy, although it is also used in the chemical industry. At the moment the supply is plentiful, but it will be running short by the end of the century, and will run out during the 21st century unless new supplies are found. We could do withouth natural gas, as coal gas can be used as a substitute, and there should be enough to last for several centuries. However, it is a form of energy which is not only cheap but also highly efficient.

Unit 7: SAVING ENERGY
Energy is very important in modern life. People use energy to run machines, heat and cool their homes, cook, give light, and transport people and products from place to place. Most energy nowadays comes from fossil fuel-petroleum, coal and natural gas. However, burning fossil fuel causes pollution. Also, if we don’t find new kinds of energy, we will use up all the fossil fuels in 21st century. Scientists are working to find other kinds of energy for the future. What might these sources be? When water moves from a high place to a lower place, it makes energy. Water power gives energy without pollution. However, people have to build dams to use this energy, which cost a lot of money.

They cause a lot of damage to anything they touch. People die every year from tornadoes. Tornadoes are ranked on the Fujita scale, from F0 to F5. F0 has the lowest wind speed, and F5 has has the highest wind speed.
The USA has the most tornadoes every year, but tornadoes can happen in any country. If tornado is coming, the safest thing to do is go to a basement or a bathroom with no windows. People should never be in a car or a mobile home when there is a tornado near.
