Radar is an electronic device that can "see" great distances despite fog, rain, snow, clouds, and darkness. This makes it possible for radar to locate many kinds of objects at far greater distances than the eye can see.
Today, networks of radar lookout stations guard the United States and Canada 24 hours a day against long - range missiles and airplanes. Patrol planes and ships search the oceans with radar for hostile ships and aircraft. Airports use radar to guide planes safely to earth in fog or storms. Ships use it to steer clear or other vessels or icebergs. Radar helps weathermen warn of approaching hurricanes and tornadoes.
